Vincent D'Onofrio Likes Tweet about His Return to Marvel in 'Hawkeye'

Rumors of a Daredevil (2015-2018) villain making his way back into the Marvel Universe are ignited after a liked tweet by actor Vincent D'Onofrio stirs up social media excitement.

The former star played Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk, a powerful crime lord dominating the Burroughs of New York City. He attempted to destroy and rebuild Hell's Kitchen, though his plans were destroyed after being leaked to the FBI. Marvel Studios is now canonically expanding their Marvel Cinematic Universe onto the small screen at breakneck speed as WandaVision, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier pave the way for more shows in 2021 and beyond. The call for Marvel's previous television series, such as Daredevil, is being cried out once again.

This isn't the first time that a rumor of D'Onofrio's reprise of Fisk has swept across the internet. Legitimate sources have not solidified the confirmation that the actor will take on the role again, and Marvel Studios has released no comment about the recent news surrounding Hawkeye (2021) and D'Onofrio.

The actor liking (and then unliking) the tweet does not serve as a legitimate verification that he'll be back. D'Onofrio is known to be an interactive Twitter user, so he may have engaged with the post without any further intention besides just that. Marvel Studios is quick to defuse chatter around potential spoilers slipping between the cracks unless it's actors Tom Holland or Mark Ruffalo, for are notorious for oversharing confidential information.

The odds that D'Onofrio may return to Marvel are unpredictable, and the actor has made it quite clear that he's eager to work with the studio as Fisk He has long hoped to share the screen with Holland as Peter "Spider-Man" Parker and wants to fit the bill as the next big bad if the Homecoming saga chooses to move on past Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The tweet pertains to Hawkeye, but Fisk would see his transition back into the timeline more smoothly through the Hawkeye spin-off, Echo, as he raised Maya "Echo" Lopez. For now, it's a waiting game until late 2021 to see if the rumors are a leaked reality.
