'The Flash' Movie Adds Supergirl to the DCEU

Andy Muschietti's The Flash (2022) presents a strong headlining cast, and while the Scarlet Speedster has finally landed his solo movie, there are new faces that are set to join him.

The DC Extended Universe adds another character to their big-screen roster as actress Sasha Calle has been cast as Kara "Supergirl" Danvers. Calle will make her DC debut in The Flash, which is predicted to follow the plot of the popular Flashpoint storyline. The movie was set back into the public eye after it was announced that actor Michael Keaton was returning to play Bruce "Batman" Wayne and that actor Ben Affleck would also appear as his version of Batman.

The comic book movie's double-dipping on Caped Crusaders teases how the timeline of The Flash may be disorderly, calling back to old characters while leaving room for new ones to play a part, all while connecting to the core DCEU timeline. Muschietti announced through social media that Supergirl will be the latest hero to appear in The Flash, which will be the character's first feature in a DCEU movie.

The CW series, Supergirl, is coming to a close, and the torch of the Supergirl mantle is passed from actress Melissa Benoist to Calle. Supergirl was aired on The CW from 2015 to 2021 and served as a leg of the television channel's Arrowverse: a collection of DC Comic stand-alone series. Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been developing a solo Supergirl movie, and now with an actress cast, there's the ability for the project to pick up momentum again.

Calle will be the second actress to bring a live-action Supergirl to silver screens, trailing behind Helen Slater of the 1984 Supergirl movie. There are no definite details as to what role Supergirl will play in The Flash, or how she will introduce herself. Zack Snyder's Snyder-Verse is drawing to a close with the director's extended cut of Justice League (2021), meaning that any leads that could usher the heroine into the DCEU could not tie to the previously established mythos.

No matter where she may come from, Supergirl is on her way to the DCEU, and she could be here to stay. The Flash speeds onto silver screens on November 4, 2022.
