Pedro Pascal to Star in 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Actor Pedro Pascal makes his homecoming to HBO after Game of Thrones, earning a leading role in the video game-based live-action series.

Basing itself off of the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us (2013) created by Naughty Dog as a PlayStation exclusive, the series signs on Pascal to headline the high-profile adaptation. The story takes place after civilization has been desolated, leaving Joel MIller (Pascal) to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from an oppressed quarantine zone. What begins as a small mission grows into a winding, heartwrenching journey between the two, as the pair travel the United States for their survival.

Pascal will join his Game of Thrones veteran co-star as his character faces his hardened past of failure and trauma, taking on the trek across the pandemic-pillaged States in order to protect Ellie, a symbol of hope amid a dying humanity.

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin are set to write and executive produce the series for HBO. Carolyn Strauss will also executive produce alongside Naughty Dog president Evan Wells. Carter Swan and Asad Qizilbash will assist in production as well, representing Platsyation Productions. The Last of Us is slated to arrive in 2021.
