Netflix and Sega re-announced that Sonic will be coming to Netflix in his own animated series, as the news came just a little over a month ago. As previously stated, Sega will be working with WildBrain Studios and Man of Action Entertainment to present Sonic Prime in 2022.
Per Netflix's series summary, Sonic Prime "draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the 'Blue Blur' of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption."
The redundant announcement further affirms the first one that was much more short-lived on the internet. Longtime Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith departed from the nominal role, and it would be presumable that someone new will step in to pick up as the quilled speedster. It has also been revealed that the animated show will consist of 24 episodes. a
"Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone's heart including my own," Netflix's Director of Original Animation Dominique Bazat said as part of today's announcement. "I spent many hours with the blue blur as a kid and it's a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix -- one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy."
Sonic Prime starts streaming on Netflix in 2022 and will be comprised of 24 episodes.
