The 25th issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man is on its way, and with it, comes a controversial piece of Spider-Man mythology as an important additive to the plot.
Marvel Comics will revisit one of the more debated storylines used in Spider-Man and have announced that 'Clone Saga' will make its return in April 2021. The 'Clone Saga' plot arc had originated in 1994 and ran until 1996 throughout Marvel's Spider-Man comics, introducing a complicated plot where Peter Parker was revealed to be a clone of himself. The "original" Peter Parker went by the name Ben Reilly and had taken over as Spider-Man. Confusingly enough, the plot takes one more twist, where it was that Reilly was the clone, and Parker was himself. This all comes after many other clones were both introduced and eliminated.
The story became so overly complex, mostly due to editorial confusion, that Marvel began to poke fun at itself and satirize its own faults. Marvel humorously published Spider-Man: 101 Ways to End the Clone Saga ahead of the resolution issue, acknowledging how tangled the story at hand had become.
Writer Saladin Ahmed will continue pulling at plot threads that have been tugged loose at the beginning of the series, and the mysterious villain Assessor is to release three distinct clones of Miles Morales upon Brooklyn. Miles Morales: Spider-Man's 'Clone Saga' promises to be more straightforward compared to its overly ambitious original run.
“When Peter Parker faced his own ‘Clone Saga’ years ago, he was taking part in what was already one of the most iconic traditions in comics — the hero battling a version of themselves. Since the very first issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man, I've known that I wanted to put Miles through that iconic wringer in his own distinctive way,” Ahmed said in a statement from the publisher. “Moments from the past will come back to haunt Miles, and the events of the story will ensnare everyone from his baby sister to Peter Parker (who knows a thing or two about dealing with clones).”
The storyline will be illustrated by Carmen Carnero of Captain Marvel, who had designed the new look of the new clones. "Clone Saga" will kick off in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25, which can be found both in comic shops and digitally published in April 2021.
