Just one of many new exciting series to arrive on Disney+, Hawkeye (2021-) is making itself look better and better by the day. Following the news that protagonist Clint "Hawkeye" Barton (Jeremy Renner) might be losing his hearing, as per the comics lore, a newcomer to the show not only encourages that rumor but adds diversity to the show.
Newcomer Alaqua Cox will play Maya "Echo" Lopez and was recently spotted on set. Lopez, who in the comics was born deaf, assisted Barton as he navigated life with his new hearing loss. Barton's hearing loss followed his eardrums being burst on two different occasions, and from a similar audio incident in his youth.
Cox is a deaf actress, diversifying Marvel's growing cast even more. The character she will be playing is a Native American whose abilities allow her to mimic the movements of other people, hence the alias of "Echo." Actor Zahn McClarnon will play William "Crazy Horse" Lopez, Lopez's father, who is known as Willie "Crazy Horse" Lincoln in the comics.
Joining Cox and McClarnon alongside Renner will be Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Fra Free as The Clown, Tony Dalton as Swordsman, and Black Widow star Florence Pugh reprising her role as Yelena Belova. Hawkeye is to release in 2021 on Disney+.
