Nostalgia '72 was the foundation of the Midwest comic convention scene and established the Donald E. Stephens as the epicenter for Chicagoland's celebrations of entertainment for decades to follow. The event provided a community space for fans to gather drawn together by a shared love of popular culture media. Attractions tied to the latest in comic books and paraphernalia collectibles served as the selling point for Nostalgia '72, tempting collectors to explore the convention halls in search of their next find. Chicago's own Nancy Warner was responsible for orchestrating the gathering, which successfully united over 2,000 of the Midwest's most diehard fans.
“Fandom culture is more than just blockbuster movies - it’s a deep loyalty to and appreciation of the classics and a celebration of the everlasting impact those comics, characters, and creators have had on each of us. At FAN EXPO Chicago, we’re working to take the fan experience to new levels, while also staying true to the root of who we - and our guests - are," Fan Expo HQ Vice President Andrew Moyes said when reflecting on the impact of fandom on today's convention crowd. Fan Expo is dedicated to their mission to returning "comics" to comic-con. Top creators from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and other popular publishing houses are sharing their impact on fandom at Fan Expo Chicago as they return fans to their roots and reiterate that it was the comic book industry that launched the convention phenomenon.
