Actor Danny DeVito is planning on returning to DC in a different way since his role in Tim Burton's Batman Returns (1992).
There are still ties to The Penguin as DeVito has agreed to write a story about Oswald "The Penguin Cobblepot" that will be featured in Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant. The anthology comic is to look back at a number of Batman's greatest rogues in their own featurettes. DeVito's contribution will mark his comic writing debut and will be accompanied by the art of Dan Mora. The Penguin is notable through DC Comics and has been facing off with the Caped Crusader since his first appearance in Detective Comics #58.
The news comes after rumors of DeVito reviving his live-action role suggest that he could be seen in The Flash (2022) to join Batman Returns star actor Michael Keaton as he also makes his way back into the DC Extended Universe. There's no telling how much truth lies in the rumors at play, but DeVito has expressed excitement over Keaton's return to the mantle of the Dark Knight.
"I think it's a great series and I think it's a wonderful story and it's a lot of fun and a lot of energy and I loved Oswald Cobblepot, and I love Tim Burton," DeVito told ComicBook.com during an interview with the publication, "We've done four or five movies together. I can't wait for him to come up with the next one, whatever we're gonna do together."
