Anthony Mackie Reported to Star in 'Captain America 4'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe found its new Captain America in Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) through the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021-). Reports have estimated when Mackie will next suit up for the MCU.

It has been reported that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star has closed a deal to lead the fourth Captain American movie in the solo franchise. The first three Captain America movies previously revolved around Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) before he passed on the shield to Wilson in the last few minutes of Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The news first broke from Deadline and does not specify whether Sebastian Stan is to be connected to the film to any extent as Marvel Studios is known to keep the details of their work as discreet as possible. Stan has not given any comment in regard to the future of his character Bucky "the Winter Soldier" Barnes.

There is no official title assigned to the next installation of the Captain America saga, but it's heavily indicative that Mackie's Captain America could transition from the small screen to the big one. Mackie has recurred in six MCU movies and was introduced in the first scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). Mackie has yet to confirm his casting in Captain America 4.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series creator and head writer Malcolm Spellman is to pen the script alongside Dalan Musson. Deadline reporter Mike Flemming Jr. says that he has been tipped by colleague Justin Kroll that the may not be the project that will rein Evans back into the MCU. Captain America 4 still remains in search of a director.
